Cherie Morfe
USA
Nominee
"Caressed"
Biography: A lawyer turned photographer, Cherie trained for several years at the New England School of Photography in Boston. Spending her childhood summers in rural Michigan instilled in her a love of the natural world that is reflected in her photographs. Cherie shoots with film and a large-format camera, and prints her negatives by hand using traditional darkroom techniques. Asked why she still uses film, Cherie replies that she loves the anticipation, as well as the uncertainty of the process, and that she feels more connected to the rich history of photography when printing in the darkroom.
